A blended liquid soil amendment; combining 5 micron-sized BioChar with liquid Humate

VITAL Blend 5M organic liquid soil amendment combines 5 micron-sized, activated BioChar (NAKED Char 5M) with freshwater-sourced liquid Humate (Leonardite). We don't use the word organic lightly; our BioChar and Humate are both OMRI Listed, and our BioChar is also IBI Certified (International Biochar Initiative) and USDA BioPreferred.

These two raw ingredients synergistically work together to improve our soils, the foundation of growing plants. VITAL Blend 5M supports the soil's ability to effectively feed the plant. Helping gardeners, farmers, and backyarders water and fertilize less, while seeing lusher landscapes, more nutrient-dense foods, and greater yields.

Healthier soils produce healthier plants and promote healthier lives.

Our BioChar blend is offered in both granular (VITAL Blend) and liquid (VITAL Blend 5M). Each can be used interchangeably, so your preferred method of application can determine which product you choose.

We have some recommendations to consider when making your decision:

  • Liquid VITAL Blend 5M is used more often in fertigation, driplines, backpack sprayers, or in tank mixes with other inputs for lawns, landscape, gardens & agriculture. It’s great for compost teas and hydroponics too. VITAL Blend 5M’s small size (5 micron), allows it to easily pass through all professional and agricultural screens – it won’t clog your filters. Size matters: the microscopic size of VITAL Blend 5M is easier to infiltrate the soil and more convenient for the microbes to inhabit.
  • Granular VITAL Blend is roughly coffee-ground sized. It creates more airspace by adding structure to the soil, especially in sand or clay. It is good for initial soil restoration. Applications can begin with the granular and later be maintained with the liquid. At higher rates, it is an aggressive remediator of contaminants such as salts, herbicides, petroleum, and heavy metals.

 Benefits:

  • Extremely concentrated - low application rates make it cost-effective for small projects or large operations
  • Simply add to water - as a soil drench, in furrow, center pivot, deep root injection, etc.
  • 5 micron-sized - won't clog sprayers, irrigation systems, drip lines, etc.
  • Increases survivability of newly planted and established trees, landscapes, and grasses
  • Can be applied with other nutrients, fertilizers or amendments
  • Promotes more abundant and longer lasting blooms
  • Improves nutrient density, harvest weight and germination rate/speed
  • Enhances the soil's ability to retain water (drought resistance), nutrients and fertilizers (less leaching)
  • Improves drainage, reduces compaction, and aids in root development
  • Strengthens the plant's defense against environmental and pest stressors
  • Remediates and prevents damage from salts, heavy metals, & toxins
  • Acts as a "soil reef" to house microbe populations
  • Creates a permanent structure in soils (BioChar lasts for over 600 years)
  • Facilitates the plant's ability to uptake nutrients from the soil
  • Acts as a great adjuvant for tank mixes

BioChar is our middle name, but our first priority. We chose recycled southern yellow pine as our feedstock because porosity is so important. Just one cubic foot of our BioChar has over 690 acres of available surface area (pores). This provides living accommodations for soil microbes and space for holding more water, oxygen, and nutrients. Our BioChar will last for over 600 years. This "nearly permanent" structure aids in water percolation, promotes root growth, and reduces erosion.

Our liquid Humate is freshwater-sourced Leonardite. It has lots of humic, fulvic and other organic acids and over 60 macro- & micro-nutrients. Humate’s story began millions of years ago, so it is immediately bioavailable to soil microbes and plants. We chose to blend our BioChar with Humate because it’s a great adjuvant (enhances nutrient effectiveness), surfactant (aids in water percolation), and chelator (improves nutrient availability).

Ingredients: BioChar (softwood feedstock), liquid Humate (Leonardite) and water

EXAMPLES of initial/start-up application rates:

Nature isn't exact, your rate doesn't have to be either

NOTE: The range of rates is dependent upon the current soil conditions; good soils use less and poor soils need more. For agriculture/gardens, if applied in furrow (right around plants) - use lower rate or full broadcasted (entire field/garden) - use higher rate.

For Direct Applications: Mix concentrate with the appropriate amount of water per plant or area

  • Row & Specialty crop: 1 - 2 gallons per acre
  • Lawn & Garden: 4 - 6 oz per 1,000 sq. ft.
  • Garden & Landscape plants: 0.5 - 4 oz (depending on size)
  • Trees: 0.25 – 0.75 oz per inch circumference or 1 - 2 oz per inch dbh (diameter) (depending on size)
  • Remediation: double the suggested rate

For Tank Mixes: (compost teas, fertilizers & nutrient mixes):

  • Blend 1 - 4 oz conc. per gallon of diluted fertilizer or other mixes, and apply at the manufacturer's recommended rate

Suggestions:

  • Reduce the volume of your nutrients/fertilizers by a minimum of 15-30%
  • Reduce your watering schedule or the volume of water used
  • VITAL Blend 5M can be mixed with water and applied directly or combined with compost teas, nutrients, fertilizers, etc.
  • Rates are annual totals and can be applied all at once or split into 2-3 applications
  • VITAL Blend 5M is also available in granular form - see VITAL Blend
  • After several years, rates can be reduced
